இன்றும் நான் போய் வந்தேன்
நீ வசிக்கும் தெருப்பக்கம்
நேற்று மாலை மழைச்சாரலில்
பாதி அழிந்தும் அழியாமலும்
நேற்று காலை நீ இட்ட
அழகான மாக்கோலம்
சாத்த மறந்த ஜன்னல் வழியே
சலனம் காட்டும் திரைச்சீலை
நீ உலர வைத்து எடுக்க மறந்த
உன் வாசம் தோய்ந்த ஈர உடை
நீ நிதம் வைக்கும் வட்டில் சோற்றை
எதிர்பார்த்து வாசல் நிற்கும்
தெருவோர நாய்க்குட்டி
தூசு படிந்து தனிமையிலே
நிற்கும் உந்தன் மிதிவண்டி -
நான் மட்டும் இல்லையடி
நீ வரும் நாளை எதிர்நோக்கி,
உயிரான என் தோழி!

புத்தகத்துப் பூ

எவ்வளவோ எதிர்பார்த்து
மனத்தினூடே சேர்த்து வைத்தேன்
அளவில்லா ஆசைகளும்
சின்னச் சின்ன கனவுகளும்
புத்தகத்தில் புதைத்து வைத்த
வண்ணமான பூப்போல
 
நீ பிரிந்து யுகம் கடந்தும்
வண்ணம் மங்கி வாடினாலும்
வாசமெல்லாந் தொலைந்தாலும்
உருக்குலைந்த காகிதத்தில்
ஒட்டி நிற்கும் மிச்சம் போல்
செல்லரித்த இதயச்சுவற்றில்
ஆங்காங்கே தொக்கி நிற்கும்
அழகாக உன் நினைவுகள்!

O, my somber-hued Love
To quell my bitter tears of pain
With a few sweet kisses
Sweetness-soaked embraces
Abundant words of allegiance
How will all these ever suffice
To spare me throes of separation
Pain of parting sears me now
As raging flames of wilderness
Why do you try dousing it
With these tender dewy blooms!

Unless when armed
With an assortment of guises
We might first ask
As to which Book you choose
And then some more
About those tongues you use
Religious preferences
Caste, clan, creed differences
Fail not to paint yourself
As from any one of these
Make not the boring claim
Of yourself being One
We may first laugh at you
With our faiths wilting down
We may then shun you out
For feigning divinity
All of us do agree here
Of the Divine being One
Whose one is that Right One
Is what we war over!

Dangling dark nimbus clouds
Slouch around like old elephants
Dancing to the tunes
Of thunderstorm’s clapping
Whipped by wild flashes
Of the whimsical lightning
Mother yells from inside
Offering words of advice
‘Call the name of Arjun
To protect you from thunder’
My wandering mind wonders
Whose name would Arjun chant
To ward off his rain fears!

அனுப்பி வைத்தக் கடிதமொன்று
பதிலற்றுக் கிடக்கிறது
அனாதையின் அழுகை போல்
 
ஆழியலை ஆர்ப்பரிப்பாய்
ஆழ்மனத்தின் தவிப்புகளை
தூண்டிவிட்டுத் தள்ளி நிற்கும்
உன்னுடைய உதாசீனம்
மூச்சுக்காற்றின் மொழி போல
மனதோடு பேசி நிற்கும்
உன் மௌனத்தின் பேரிரைச்சல்
 
மௌனத்தின் அர்த்தம்
சம்மதம் கூடத்தான்
என்றெனக்கு சமாதானம்
சொல்பவர்களிடம்
சொல்லத்தான் நினைக்கிறேன்
உன் மௌனத்தை விட
மரணம் கூட மேலென்று!

Deep in your delightful heart
Add a lot of affection
Abundance of pure care
Another quart of affinity
And, a bit of allegiance
Pepper it with playfulness
Pack a dash of possessiveness
Throw in a pinch of lust
With no whiff of lewdness
Brew it for a while longer
Till I get to sense it here
Inside my lovelorn heart
When it turns well-seasoned
Sit with me by my side
Let’s taste that nectar of Love
Till the end of Eternity!

An Old, Broken Bench

Left alone unwanted
In the garden’s corner
With rust-covered railings
And a few broken nails
Moist-laden old planks
Catering to termites
An old bench survives
Talking to the little buds

Drawing from distant past
Woven with halcyon days
The rickety old bench
Recounts many tales
Of the playful kids’ games
Young lovers’ smitten gazes
Lazy men’s lengthy sleeps, and
Aged ones’ reminiscent sighs!

Of this Moonlit breezy night
Remind me so much
Of your breathing
As you once calmly slept
Wrapped in my loving arms
Serene like a celestial nymph

A hoary Moon hiding by
Passing dark wispy clouds
Reminds me so much
Of your sweet face
Silently seducing me
Veiled by wavy strands
Of your wild fragrant hair

Even the coarse quilts
Of this mattress
Feel so very tender tonight
So like your supple skin
Burning me once with passion
Pressed against my being
In deep intimate hugs

Have I spent myriad nights
All by my somber Self
Inebriated with your memories
Why this night feels, then
Warm and divine?
Did you just feel me there
As an old forlorn dream?

Begging for some coins
Passed out strangers
Fallen by the roadsides
Poor platform-dwellers’
Fights for daily survival
Plight of old orphans
Pleading for little food
Distressing deaths of
Distant lands’ people –
My callous mind
Now cares for no one
Yet a tiny helpless ant
Moving by my restless feet
Stirs a bit of humaneness
Reminding me the serene face
Of the smiling Buddha!

அன்றாட அலுவலகத்தின்
அசட்டுத்தன செய்திகள்
அர்த்தமில்லா சிரிப்புகள்
பேருந்து பயணத்தின்
சின்னஞ்சிறு சண்டைகள்
வழியில் பார்த்த பெண்களின்
அழகு ஆடை அணிகலன்
அத்தனையும் நினைவில் சுமந்து

வீட்டுக் குழந்தை விளையாட
பொம்மை வாங்கும் தந்தைகள்
கைகோர்த்துக் கவனமுடன்
நடக்கும் முதிய தம்பதி
கண் நிறைக்கும் களிப்போடு
அமர்ந்திருக்கும் காதலர்கள்
'மனைவிக்கு'  வாங்கச் சொல்லி
விற்க முயலும் பூக்காரி
அனைவரையும் தாண்டி வந்து

வீட்டுக்கதவைத் திறந்ததுமே
முகத்தினிலே அறைவது
வெப்பக் காற்று மட்டுமல்ல
நீ இல்லாத என் வாழ்வின்
வெறிச்சோடிய தனிமையும்
வெதும்ப வைக்கும் வெறுமையுந்தான்!

Moonless nights
Darkened alleyways
Walking all by myself
Listening to my lonely
Reverberating footsteps
I am left to wonder
What would it take
To usurp you ever
Sitting deep-seated
In my heart’s throne!

கந்தல் சட்டை சிறுவர்கள்
சாலையோரம் விழுந்திருக்கும்
பெயர் தெரியா பேர்வழிகள்
நடைபாதை அதை வீடாய்
மாற்றி வாழும் ஏழைகள் 
அடுத்த வேளை உணவுக்காய் 
கையேந்தும் அனாதைகள்
கொத்தாக செத்து விழும்
தொலைதூர மனிதர்கள்
அத்தனையும் பார்த்தாலும்
துளிர்க்காத என் மனிதம்
காலடியில் ஊறும் எறும்பு
கண்டவுடன் உணர்வதெல்லாம்
கண் மூடி சிரித்திருக்கும்
கவலையில்லா புத்தன் முகம்!

Dying Farmlands

Was she like a virtuous bride
Clad in greens spread far and wide
Adorned in pearls of glistening dew
Swaying ripened paddy of golden hue
Her sensuous scent wafting in wind
Was she once a joy to behold

Shorn now of the greens draping her
Stripped to sate the human greed
Savaged by the sons of her own
Split to form several ugly habitats
She lies like a withered old corpse
Sun sighing at her barren bosom!

Lonely Moon moves around
In yearnful existence
Cleaved from beloved Earth
Since early Eternity

Circling Her companion
Showering Her lustrous love
She awaits the end of Time
For ultimate communion
To shed all ephemeral shapes
And unite amorphously!

காத்திருந்த நாட்களதில்
கனிந்து வந்த காதல்
உன் வார்த்தை நான் பேசி
என் எண்ணம் நீ புரிந்து
உயிர் ஒன்று உடல் வேறாய்
உணர்வுகள் ஒன்றிப்போய்
உடனிருந்த நாட்களதில்
வளர்ந்திருந்த காதல்
நானின்றி நீயில்லை
என்றிருந்த நீயும்
நீயின்றி வாழ்வில்லை
என்றான நானும்
தனித்தனியாய் வழி நடக்கும்

கண்ணிமைகள் சிமிட்டவில்லை
காதலேதும் கருத்திலில்லை
சிதறி வீழ்ந்த நாணயங்கள்
நீ தேடித் தந்த அந்த நொடி
எதிரெதிராய் அமர்ந்திருந்த
அழகான அத்தருணம்

ஏனென்றே தெரியாமல்
என் முகத்தை நீ பார்த்து
நான் பார்க்கும் அந்நொடியில்
சன்னலில் நீ முகம் புதைக்க
பார்வைகளின் தழுவலும்
பார்க்கும்போது நழுவலுமாய்
ஏதோ ஓர் பரவசத்தில்
களித்திருந்த அத்தருணம்

கடும்வாடை காற்றினிலே
உன் நடுக்கம் நான் கண்டு
என் ஜன்னல் சாத்தியதும்
நன்றி சொன்ன குறுஞ்சிரிப்பு
வரப்போகும் ஊர் கண்டு
வாசல் நோக்கி நான் நடக்க
இடையிருந்தவர் பின் தள்ளி

மனதோர சலனம் கொன்று

ஒரு ஓரம் பாவி மனம்

அதிகாலை கூட்டத்திலும்
எனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து வந்து
எனைத் தாண்டிப் போகாமல்
நீ இணை நடந்த அந்த நடை

பிரியும் கணம் அறிந்த பின்பு
மனதோரம் வலி உணர்ந்து
முகந்தனில் நகை கொணர்ந்து
நாம் பிரிந்து சென்ற அந்த நொடி
நமதிந்த ரயில் ஸ்நேஹம்
ரயிலோடு போகாமல்
ரயில் பாதை போல் நீள
உள்ளேதோ ஓர் விருப்பம்

இனி வாழ்க்கைப்பாதை தனில்
உனை மீண்டும் சந்திக்கையில் 
உன்னோடு பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள 
இந்நினைவுகளை உள்ளிருத்தி
எதிர்நோக்கி இருக்கின்றேன்

A Face in the Crowd!

Struggling with the chores one day
I felt a little, lovely thought
Rushing through my heart
Pretty like a face in the crowd
Poetic as the presence in a dream
It filled my soul with bliss and warmth
Yet before I could jot it down
Lost was it like a shooting star

As those faces vanish in the crowd
As dreams go so short-lived
Lost was the thought in mind’s maze
Trying as I am to recall the same
I could sense no sign of success
Unclear and obscure it stays yet
I feel the vestiges of its pure bliss
Like the ripples in a lotus pond!
